About Ponsanooth Preschool
Ponsanooth Pre-School is based in a wonderful new building on the Playing Field in the heart of the village. We have a spacious, light and airy classroom, with an additional smaller room to enjoy books and quieter times. There are vast opportunities for outdoor play, with direct access to the park as well as a large secure outdoor play space, which the children can access freely throughout the day.
The pre-school is a registered charity with a volunteer management committee of parents and family members. We recognise the importance of parents and practitioners working together in order to understand children’s interests and to support their learning and development.
Aims & Opportunities
How We Help Children to Develop at Pre-School
We help the children to learn and develop by following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) this is the statutory framework for early years’ settings which encourages development and learning from birth to 5 years.
The aim of the framework is to encourage young children to achieve the ‘Every Child Matters’ outcome of:
· Staying safe
· Being healthy
· Enjoying and achieving
· Making a positive contribution
· Achieving economic well being
The framework ensures that the children have access to a range of play activities, resources for learning and that the inclusion of every child is of paramount importance.
Through observing and assessing the children we are able to ensure each child’s individual needs are met and children can make progress through the ‘development matters’ section of the EYFS.
Our aim is to ensure that children are well cared for, settled and happy in order for them to achieve their full potential in all areas of the Early Years curriculum. By the time they leave us to start their journey onto school, we aim for all children to be confident and ready to learn. Through our comprehensive range of activities we aim to help your child grow and develop.
We have a well-stocked quiet book corner, with comfortable sofa for the children to sit on to enjoy their favourite books.
We have a home corner, with a range of role playing toys and equipment.
We have a well resourced craft area which is accessible at all times throughout the day.
Messy play, water and sand are always readily available.
We have a large outside area with a range of bikes and scooters along with balance equipment. We encourage active play.
We have a range of resources for early literacy and maths such as games, electronic whiteboards, mark making equipment and counting resources.
We even have our very own pet guinea pigs!
We like to cook and bake.
When possible, we like to go on little visits around the village. We often visit the park which can be directly and safely accessed from the building. We also like to visit Kennall Vale woods, the local shop and to see the lights in the village at Christmas time. We also have good links with Kennall Vale School.
